Finding the time (and motivation) to be active while you’re on vacation can be a struggle—which is why Tara Stiles, founder and owner of Strala Yoga, was so excited to partner with W Hotels last year to offer guests luxe stays that are all about health and wellness. “I met the global team in NYC last year, and we started talking about ways to create something fun and useful—and the FIT Retreats were born,” she says. “The goal is to provide a fun, exciting experience of yoga and wellness through Strala classes, outdoor adventures specific to the gorgeous locations, and healthy, delicious local foods.”
I was lucky enough to be invited on a recent FIT Retreat at the W Vieques. During our stay, we hiked through woods with remnants of an abandoned sugar mill, took a healthy cooking class with the hotel’s chef, and had twice daily yoga sessions (one in the morning, and one just in time to enjoy the sunset during savasana). Even though we hit the mat outdoors, Stiles used music to enhance her routines. “Song selection can make or break a class,” she says. “A song carries the mood and fuels the energy, so it’ super important to choose songs with the vibe we’re orchestrating.” Here’s a mix from one of our sessions that will leave you energized and Zen at the same time (sorry, no tropical sunset included):
